Making a Statement... (chair in 2018)

One way of injecting a new lease of life into your living spaces in 2019 is a #mausrefurbished statement chair! In this instalment we take you behind the scenes on some of our favourite restorations from the maus workshop last year, stay a while and be inspired by our best of 2018 list!

G Plan Winged Saddleback in 'Tea Green'

We LOVED this rare winged G Plan armchair, more commonly seen without its wings, our customers decided on this super contemporary colour-way of 'Tea Green' in one of our favourite fabrics- #linwood #Omega stain resistant velvet, in combination with the chairs classic teak wood stain circa 1970's, we think it makes for a beautiful contrast and a chair that makes a MASSIVE statement.

Another velvet masterpiece was this deep buttoned victorian-style armchair. This time in #linwood #tango

This dark and moody masterpiece is accentuated by its beautiful #teak turned legs with brass #castors. Its oversized arms and chunky platform made it the ideal project for this luscious slubby velvet- made for chilled cosy evenings in front of the fire.

Stunning 'Mayan' print armchair

When we were approached by this customer we jumped at the chance to help design this beautiful re-upholstery! Pieced together by fabrics that had been collected from a round-the-world trip, this chair really is a one-of-a-kind piece and truly demonstrates the beauty of re-upholstery- a chair which was tired and in need of some tlc- but by no means fit for the scrapheap- rejuvenated with contemporary design and materials, built to last for a few decades more!

Last on our list but certainly not least is this ornate antique rocking chair, a family heirloom passed down from one generation to the next. The customer chose this contemporary print, 'Pagoda' in 'Graphite', again from the amazing #linwood fabrics. Choosing such a busy geometric pattern can be a risk where there is a lot of ornate or 'show' wood- the patterns can often clash with each other and make for a confusing aesthetic. Here I think you'll agree that it was a risk worth taking.

We restored the frame with a fresh coat of french polish after we sanded away the older teak stain to bring out some of the beautifully ornate wood carving that makes this chair so special.
